2017 Season Opener
What a way to kick off the 2017 kayak fishing season! Our anglers set a new attendance record and the current big bass record was beaten! The OKA's previous attendance record was 65 anglers set at the season opener on Konawa last year. This year we had 70 kayak anglers! Thank you to everyone for coming out and fishing with us. You guys make this trail what it is. We would also like to thank you Cabela's for their support of this event, you couldn't ask for a better group of enablers! There where so many new tournament fisherman at this event! It was great!
Conditions: It was cloudy and windy through-out the day. With a 6:30 first cast start time, anglers were able to launch from any public access point with the roadrunner format. Some anglers were even visible across the lake with a UFO like glow from their supernova's! The morning started off with a sustained 15 mph southerly wind with gusts to 25 and cloud cover. That trend lasted all day with occasional drizzle. Water temps ranged from 54-58.

Randal Farley Sr. took home 1st place, $530, and one mean cooler

Landon Johnston took home 2nd, $320, and 2 rods from cabela's!
Landon caught his fish on a Yum Warning Shot fished on a drop shot. Fish were caught anywhere between 5-15 ft
Brent Wilson took home 3rd, $210, and a lightweight pfd
Brent caught his larger fish on a blue/silver redeye shad early and filled out his limit with a small crankbait minutes before weigh-in in 8ft of water
Kong Xiong took home big bass honors with a 24" toad. This fish breaks the current record (Taylor Wilson's 23.75 for arbuckle) and landed King Kong $600
Kong on his fish: Megabass ito vision 110 and Strike king 5XDjerkbait fish were caught in about 5ft of water, crankbait fish was in about 13ft

PSA: please read through the measuring rules and make sure you adhere to them. We had to dock way to many open mouths. Remember "belly to belly, fish faces left" Kong's big bass picture is a great example.
