The Oklahoma State Championship lived up to its name (and more) this weekend as some of the best kayak fisherman in the state met on Dripping Springs lake. These anglers fished their way into the championship by finishing in the top slots of qualifying tournaments and jackpots held in Oklahoma. Dripping Springs is a trophy lake located an hour south of Tulsa. It has great habitat including standing timber and submersed vegetation and it offers up some massive mossbacks. The lake is a difficult one to fish in high winds. To greet our 22 anglers, overcast skies and a strong southerly wind came up overnight to test them. The event fired off at safelight with first cast being at 7am.
When the final scorecard hit the buckets, Houa Xiong emerged as the 2016 Oklahoma State Champ! Houa brought in 78.5" capped off by a beautiful 21" bass. His fish were caught on a buzzbait, monster worm, and a senko. Houa has had one heck of a season! An AOY award, Championship, and we've lost count of how many wins he's had! Congrats on a fantastic season!

Incidentally, a judging error had Houa at 77.5" and sent the trophy home with Benny Williams. Benny represented the kayak fishing community well and chose to return the title once he had learned of the mistake.
To all our tournament fisherman out there, if you find yourself in a position where you feel there is a mistake. Make sure your protests is addressed within a 24 hour window, preferably immediately after the awards have been given out. This is according to kbf rules on disputes http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/kbf-rules-standards/
Despite every effort placed on scoring, unfortunately our tournament directors are human :-) and mistakes still happen.
Our apologies to Houa and Benny for the mistake and it will be corrected for the next season.
Thanks again for being a class act Benny, your still a champ in our book.

Thank you to all our sponsors, anglers, and board members who helped make this the biggest year yet. 2017 has some big surprises in store! We'll be getting out next years dates soon, and we could use some help! If your interested in joining the board let us know!
