2015 Arkansas vs. Oklahoma Border Battle

The inaugural Border Battle between Oklahoma and Arkansas is in the books! A huge Thank You to the tournament crew with the Arkansas RazorYaks for hosting this event on scenic Beaver Lake. The captains meeting started everyone off dark and early at the Rodgers Academy. From there, this road runner event was underway and, as can be seen in the spreadsheet, fishing was tough for most of the field. The tough conditions were a result of a late summer cold front coupled with bluebird skies and a northern breeze. This put the big fish in lock jaw mode. A handful of highly skilled anglers were still able to scratch out a limit!

After the cards were checked back in at Academy at 3 o'clock, the field gathered round and enjoyed grilled hotdogs. A table full of great prizes was raffled off, check out http://razoryak.com/ to see the supporting sponsors. This year, the Battle for the Border bragging rights went home with Arkansas. Congratulations to Arkansas and this was a great event with plenty of opportunity to talk with fellow kayak anglers from our neighboring state.

It wasn't all bad for Oklahoma though, Gary Kasper was able to pull in a nice 5 fish limit and take home 1st place! Gary used a topwater popper to lure the finicky bass up in the clear water.

With a 15.75" largemouth, Hook 1 Big Bass went to Arkansas Jr. angler Barron Meek! Barron caught his big bass on a white fluke with a chartreuce tail.

This event will be hosted by Oklahoma in the 2016 season, no doubt our anglers are looking for a little redemption!

The Oklahoma Championship is coming up in just a few weeks and will be held on Okemah lake October 3rd. For more information on the championship https://www.facebook.com/events/1377933632522774/

The Red River Rivalry has been canceled for 2015 due to scheduling conflict with multiple events in Tx.
